Each match in Phantom Command: Tactical Duel begins with a simple objective: guide your phantom creatures past the opponent's defensive line while stopping theirs from crossing yours. You spend mana to summon units and direct them forward. The challenge lies in balancing offense with defense, as you must both push your own forces and react to the enemy's movements. Matches are designed to be resolved quickly, often concluding in around 40 seconds, which keeps the pressure high and decisions meaningful.
Random boosters appear on the battlefield during each match, forcing players to adapt their strategy on the fly. One type of booster summons additional phantom creatures to your side, another slows down enemy units temporarily, and a third strengthens your own creatures for a short period. Knowing when to use these power-ups can turn a losing position into a winning one. Their random placement ensures that no two matches play out exactly the same way.
Victory in each match rewards you with gold, which can be spent to upgrade your commander. These permanent improvements affect how your units perform in future battles. You can increase the strength of your summoned creatures, make them move faster, or expand your mana capacity so you can field more units at once. This progression system gives players a long-term goal to work toward between matches.
Phantom Command includes a local two-player mode where both players share the same screen. This makes it a good choice for playing against a friend in the same room. The mode retains all the core mechanics of the single-player experience, including the random boosters and fast match length. It is ideal for short, competitive sessions where quick thinking and adaptability are rewarded.
